NorthBound Tails

A tale has been told over the centuries, rediscovered through fragmentary prose manuscripts, featuring noble heroes from Iceland that have travelled across the world in their time. Brothers by bond, but not by blood, Ragnar 'Rabbit' and Kjartan 'Kitten' are the eponymous protagonists of 12th century lore, exploring countries and experiencing cultures both familiar and under-represented in contemporary education.

NorthBound Tails is a book I am currently writing and illustrating that tells the story of Ragnar & Kjartan, their family and friends, as these two vastly different characters strive to achieve their own dreams. The pair will cross seas and oceans to discover both 'new' and known lands across the medieval period. The story is to be framed as a translated edition (or localisation) of collected prose romances and sagas, featuring elements that let the reader immerse themselves in the experience of medieval text research.

This project has evolved from an idea for an animated short into a tale with rich characters and a depth of lore and worldbuilding through my own research into history and through my wife's academic career in medieval literature.
